Desert is a the the collective descriptor for a group of Lapwings. Lapwings are common shore birds (I had to look that up).
Goose is to gaggle as Lapwing is to desert.

I was going for something about the "watchmaker God" philosophy, but I actually had to, uh, work at work, so I didn't get finished.

I originally doodled a bear because one of the meanings of stave is something about beating a dog off a bear with a stick during bear-baiting.
