My back-tack partner, Mery, is one of the five softies chosen to compete for a prize! Yay! I am pretty sure the vote is open to anyone, so get on over there and vote for pijije! I fell pretty lucky to have gotten such an awesome softie and the ladies at Back-tack agree!
In other news, I recommend everyone everywhere go out and see the movie Brick. So good. Timmy and I couldn't stop talking about it and I woke up this morning thinking about it.
Woo! I received my BT3 package! (actually last week, but I have been without internet via an exploded modem for the last week - very painful, I don't want to talk about it.) And it is AWESOME! My super fabulous BT partner was Mery over at ...pijije (which by the way is the best blog name EVER!), who is every so talented and sent me this wonderful loot:
That, my friends, is the world's cutest dolly on top of a pile of Japanese candy - quite possibly one of the best packages ever created.
Officially Mery is a genius because:
I went with a more traditional softie and now I am regretting it because clearly I am awed by Mery's creativity. But those of you who are still curious can check it out after the cut.
I whipped up this little number for my friend Amanda as a going away, going to grad school, I missed your birthday because I am a bad friend present:
It turned out pretty well. I think I am finally getting the hang of purses. And I really like making them, they are quick, so there is alot of immediate gratification.
I also worked on my submission for this month's Tie One On. I think I will finish it tonight because I have to mail part of it to Alabama for it to be really finished.
Except for last night, I did not get to bed before 2AM all weekend. There was alot of hanging out with Amanda, two movies, eating of fish, a CD release party and a surprise visit from Timmy's dad and brother Sammy.
Amanda and I went to see Red Eye on Friday. It was good and definitely a thriller. After much discussion of Cillian Murphy's hotness and the revelation that Amanda had never seen 28 Days Later, I insisted we watch it at my house. For the record, Cillian Murphy is definitely hottest in 28 Days Later and it is because of the accent. Amanda was sorely disappointed to hear he had been recently married.
On Saturday, we went to Amanda's fish fry where we chatted, I actually ate and enjoyed fish, but not as much as the hush puppies, and we were all neck deep in babies. No kidding. So many babies. Like six. Man-o.
After Amanda pried us away from the hush puppies (and her mother's fabric stash, Thanks Mrs. D for the great fabric, it has already been put to use!), we went to Sweetwater Abilene's CD release show. On the way, Timmy received a call from his brother that went like this:
Sammy: Hey, where are you?
Timmy: Uh, outside a bar about to see a show.
Sammy: Well, we are at (a restaurant that Timmy and I honest to god had just walked past 30 seconds ago).
Timmy: No shit!
Timmy: Awesome, we'll be right there!
Sammy: By the way, I think whitty is the best gal ever, you are a lucky, lucky dude.
Timmy: So true, so true!
Granted I am just paraphrasing there, because I only heard one side of that conversation.
So we met up with Sammy and my father-in-law and went to see the show, where they proceeded to drink us under the table. Man, I drank like THREE cherry cokes. Woo, wild child!
The show was excellent, Sweetwater Abilene is a really fun band and we closed out the bar chatting and carousing. Afterwords, The Timmy family and I went to an all night diner where I learned that Timmy's appetite is a familial attribute. So much food for 3 in the morning, my club sandwich seemed down right petite.
On Sunday, Amanda, Mark, Timmy and I went to The 40 Year Old Virgin. Steve Carell, you are my new boyfriend, and you are on Timmy's list too. I laughed my ass off. The ending was so ... so ... perfect. Seriously, hours later, I was saying "Can you believe they ____ ______ and _______ ______? Genius!"
So, good weekend all around. And now I will sleep under my desk at work.
Hey, better late than never, eh?
An owl for Jake :
A rabbit for Kate:
With these two screens I have officially gone through my first pack of Gocco screens and bulbs. When I order more, I have to remember to order some screen cleaner too. It is disheartening to have to throw out a screen after only using it one time.
She has been a huge help, so I hope she likes it.
Here's my first pocket, where I will stick my thank you card:
Here's a close up on the birdy:
This bag was heavily influenced but not nearly as cool as the bird bag at Craftlog. Though that is something to aspire to in bag radness.
Sorry for the pictures being so dim, as I said, it was very late. Took some more pics.
I stayed up way, way too late last night to make this little zipper pouch:
It is ridiculous that I stayed up late as it only took me half an hour. So more rightly I should say: I stayed up late watching bad television (oh my, how awful is Rock Star:INXS?) and then I made this pouch.
It is tyvek and sharpies, nothing too original, but I wanted to work with tyvek and it makes a sturdy little pouch. In an effort to use the gigantic tyvek envelope (it was huge!) sparingly, I used the pieces that still had some adhesive on them. My sewing machine did not like that.
However, I would count this pouchy pouch a success. Though next time I will be a bit more adventuresome with the decorations. And I am hoping to make my bro a man bag with a tyvek lining soon.
Timmy had a show the other night and I actually got out of the house. Tim, a guy Timmy replaced in a band a long while back, was there with his band from out of state and it was good to see him again. It is nice to see someone who made it out of the giant vacuous hole this town is. And the band wasn't too shabby either.
Tonight I am venturing out of the house yet again and going to see Dark Water with Timmy, my cousin and her husband. I'll let you know how it is.
why I look like walking death, well....
That is right! A zipper AND a lining. I am bad ass!
The bag as a whole turned out pretty crappily, but the zipper is stupendous. And it has a round bottom, which is cool, but the size is all wrong. It looks like a red dupioni silk banana.
And can I tell you, I have been using the seam ripper wrong this WHOLE TIME! What! How can that be? I blame 7th grade home ec. But I pretty much blame 7th grade home ec for everything wrong everywhere.
Please check out my bag making progress here - so far just a bunch of failed experiments, but I am getting there.
Also there are some pics from my birthday and my last minute cake in the random photo album.
