Spinning-wheel gots to go 'round. Ba-dah-baaaaaah!
Man, did I ever rock that song in pep band on French Horn. I mean, WATCH OUT for the rockin' French Horn!! Woot!
Anyway, my pep band memories are brought on by a recent purchase of a Louet S10 spinning-wheel off ebay and straight from the dikes of Holland. Please peruse:
Oooo, I can feel your seething jealousy. You are soooo jealous of my sexy spinning-wheel. Check out those hot little hand carders that come with it! Not to even mention the three luscious bobbins! And a perky little drop spindle to boot. I can't even talk sensibly about the ball-winder, except to say, your eyes do not deceive you - yes, it is expandable! Man, I am gonna spin me some yarn, I'm gonna spin it really good. YESSIR!
In six weeks or so. Cheap shipping across the Atlantic is not speedy. But can I tell you what an amazing deal I got on this. It was amazing, I tell you. I was high on the post-auction thrill for a few days afterward. Which is pretty lame admittedly, but there you go.
So towards the end of July I am going to give this thing a whirl (ha- it is a wheel!) and see what happens. I haven't used a spinning-wheel before and I am miserable with a drop spindle. But I have been inspired by some of the amazing handspun yarn I have seen out there. And I have enough llama fiber to outfit a small village.
The strangest thing, of course, is that I can't knit.
But my grandma has promised to teach me.
Ride a painted pony, indeed!
